Don't Be Fooled by Storm Stoppers!
The Storm Stopper product is nothing more then low cost, off the
shelf, hardware items packaged together and sold as a "plywood alternative".
It's nothing more
than a low cost sheet of 3/8" corrugated plastic held in place with
Velcro like 3M
Dual Lock reclosable fasteners. They are
betting no one will notice it's nothing more than that.
The low cost plastic sheet may not
puncture when struck by a wind driven 2 x 4 but it will bend with enough force
to break a
window however the biggest problem is the 3M Dual Lock reclosable fasteners.
They will rip apart long before the storm reaches hurricane
strength.

| The following information comes directly from 3M
Think about this. You are
putting a piece of plastic over your windows that you
can remove yourself, without tools, just by pulling
apart the 3M Dual Lock reclosable fastener. Are
you stronger then a hurricane? If you can pull the
plastic panels off by yourself with no tools what do you
think a hurricane will do to the panels?
There are a lot of complicated
factors that go into calculating how much of the 3M Dual
Lock fasteners would be needed to meet minimum hurricane
standards. How the 3M Dual Lock fasteners are applied
and what they are applied to are huge factors.
Other factors are moisture and temperature. The absolute
minimum would be a solid continuous strip no less then
4" wide all the way around the entire plastic panel.
The smallest gap in material or the slightest decrease
in pressure during installation would result in
separation long before hurricane winds were reached. The
3M Dual Lock fasteners are only a half inch wide and the
Storm Stoppers installation instructions suggest using
small strips placed 6" apart. |

We predict there will be a product liability
lawsuit brought against this company after the next hurricane when people
find out they were mislead about the performance of the Storm Stopper
product. If you are a Storm Stopper distributor or retailer you should
make sure the manufacturer is carrying product liability insurance. We
have a strong feeling they do not which will leave you venerable for
litigation in the future.
How do we know all this?
The creators of this Storm Stoppers scam came to us posed as college students who had invented a weather
prediction device and asked us to give them the domain name
StormStoppers.com for free. They claimed to be poor starving college students
and begged us to help them by giving them the domain name for free. We actually agreed
to let them use the domain name free of charge, after all we are very compassionate people and suckers for a good story and helping the poor.
The problem was they wanted to own the domain and all we wanted to do is let
then use the domain for free. After days of almost constant badgering
by them
we offered to sell them the domain for $1.00 in return for a 1% stock
ownership in a business that didn't even exist as far as we knew. It
was a purely charitable offer because after all 1% ownership in an upstart
is worth nothing unless the company goes public some time in the future and
it is well known that 9 out of 10 businesses fail. We even offered to help
them market their invention for free. We offered to host their website
for free. We offered to provide them with unlimited email accounts for
free. One of our board members was even going to spend his own money
on a pay-per-click keyword marketing plan through Google. We were
really suckered into this scam. We really thought we were helping some
college students in need. They wanted us to give them the domain for
free and would not accept anything else so the conversation ended there, or
so we thought.
A year later we noticed
this website, StormStoppers.com, was getting a lot more hits then usual.
The hits had increased by more than 100 per day and were growing more and
more faster and faster everyday. We
did a little research and found a Florida based business named Cleaver
Covers, Inc. using our Storm Stoppers name without our permission. We contacted them not knowing
anything about the business. At the time we contacted them we did not
know the kind of people they were or that they were the same ones that
attempted to swindle us out of the domain a year earlier. Being a very companionate
group of people we though we would do this company a favor and let them
know about the business they were missing out on. We really didn't
care that they were using the name. It really was no big deal.
We really don't need to own all three versions of the domain name. We
can always use more money to fund our projects but we were really doing them a
favor by contacting them in an attempt to help their business. This is
when we discovered what kind of people we were dealing with. In our
conversation with the owner of the business he let the cat out of the bag
about the college student scam. He went on to say that our
organization was being harmed by the extra hits and that when hurricane
season came it would get worst. We tried to set him straight but he
just got angered and talked over us. We tried to let him know that the
extra hits were a good thing for us. The more hits we get the more
people know about our cause. We love the extra hits and can't wait
until hurricane season comes to get even more hits and sell even more
t-shirts and other stuff. This just shows you how
crazy, whacko these people are. How stupid is it to actually
believe you can convince someone that extra website traffic could be a bad
thing? It explicitly shows how unscrupulous these people are.
They lied, swindled and even suckered us in at first, then they tried to
convince us we are being harmed by the increase in web traffic. The
conversation ended after a long, angry tirade that included threats of
litigation against us. It's really sad that extremetly
compassionate people like us who are trying to do someone we don't even know
a favor get victimized in return.
